Taiwan's Formosa Petrochemical Corp (FPCC) will bring forward the restart of its 700,000 tonne/year No 1 naphtha cracker at Mailiao as the company prepares to shut its 1.2 m tonne/year No 3 unit at the same site due to unspecified problems. They plan to restart the No 1 cracker as soon as possible before the end of February and the No 3 unit – Asia’s largest – is expected to be shut this afternoon or tomorrow. Formosa is currently running its 1.03 m tonne/year No 2 cracker in Mailiao at full capacity.
