Sibur Terminate its Methanol Business

Report: Sibur, the major petrochemical company in Russia, claimed a few days ago that it would terminate its business of methanol and focus on developing core assets. SibMethaKhim sold its 33.46 percent of shares in OAO Metafrax, but did not disclose more details. Sibur is now withdrawing from SibMethaKhim. SibMethaKhim is now managed by Tomskgazprom--a subsidiary of Vostokbazprom and ZAO. SibMethaKhim is composed in September 2006 by Sibur and OAO Vostokgazprom—a subsidiary of Gazprom. OAO Metafrax is located in Gubakha, in the region of northern Russian, is the major methanol producer and exporter. Last year, Metafrax’s methanol production is 1,000,000 tons / year. In the first half of 2008, its production is 517,000 tons, 3% higher than last year.
