European epichlorohydrin (ECH) contracts for May fell by €60/tonne ($80/tonne) due to low demand and aggressive offers. According to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing,May ECH settled at €1,050-1,150/tonne FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe). It was widely accepted among market players that aggressive competition from domestic producers and imported material as well as weak demand were the main factors in driving contract prices down. Several producers continued to point to sellers in central and eastern Europe, who were said to be offering at €1,000/tonne FD NWE for May contracts and €900-1,000/tonne for spot deals. Other sources, however, believed that domestic competition and producers undercutting one another were behind the decreases, with western European material also widely reported to be offered at €1,000/tonne FD for May contracts. However, there was no confirmation of these figures from producers.
